What Happens After You Record a Podcast?

Recording the conversation is only the beginning. Here is how we securely organise your files, prepare your edit, collect your feedback and turn the session into polished content that is ready to share.

A managed process

You Don’t Leave With a Pile of Unexplained Files

When a recording session finishes at Podcast Studio Glasgow, our work continues. The audio, video and individual camera recordings need to be carefully organised, prepared and checked before editing begins.

We have built a structured production process to make this straightforward for both the client and the editor. Instead of passing notes around in long email chains, every project can be followed from the original recording through to final delivery.

For clients, this means less uncertainty, clearer communication and a much easier way to explain what should be changed.

The main benefit

You can concentrate on the content and the conversation. We take care of organising the recordings, managing your edit instructions and preparing the finished files.

The Post-Production Timeline

1

Your recordings are organised

After the session, we copy and organise the relevant audio and video recordings using a consistent project name based on the client and recording date.

For a multi-camera production, we retain a separate recording from each camera. These are known as ISO recordings . “ISO” simply means that every camera records its own complete video file, rather than leaving us with only the live camera mix produced during the session.

Keeping the individual camera recordings gives the editor much more flexibility. If someone reacts while another guest is speaking, a camera change happens slightly too early, or a particular shot is more suitable for a social clip, the editor can choose the best angle afterwards.

Why separate camera recordings matter

A studio offering ISO recording gives the editor access to every individual camera angle throughout the entire conversation. This provides:

  • More natural and accurate camera changes
  • The ability to correct or improve the live camera mix
  • Better coverage of guest reactions and important moments
  • More choice when creating vertical and social-media clips
  • Greater protection if one angle is temporarily unsuitable

2

The camera files are prepared for editing

The original camera recordings are converted into a format that is practical for the editing process. We retain the separate camera angles, allowing the editor to choose the most appropriate shot throughout the conversation.

This preparation also helps us keep every part of the project clearly labelled and associated with the correct client and recording.

3

A review version is created

We create a smaller review video that is easy to watch online. This is not the finished programme. It is a working version designed to help you review the conversation and tell us what you would like changed.

The review recording is made available through Descript, alongside a timecoded transcript. A timecoded transcript is simply a written version of the conversation with times attached, making it much easier to find a particular word, phrase or section.

4

You receive a private review page

We send you a private link to your PSG review page. From there, you can open the recording, read the transcript and submit clear edit instructions without having to create a complicated document.

Your work saves automatically as you go. You can leave the page and return using the same private link, so you do not have to complete the entire review in one sitting.

5

Your edit instructions reach the editor

Once you submit the review, your instructions appear in our production system as a structured edit brief. The editor can see each requested change, its timestamp and the words or explanation you supplied.

The edit points can also be added as markers inside Final Cut Pro, the professional editing software we use. This helps the editor move accurately through the programme and tick off each request as it is completed.

6

The final content is edited and checked

We complete the agreed edit, prepare any social clips included in the project and check that the finished files follow the correct naming and delivery format.

Your project progress is updated as the work moves from editing to completion and delivery.

7

Your finished files are delivered

Depending on the project, files may be placed in your dedicated client portal or supplied using an agreed secure file-sharing service. We prepare the delivery email for approval before it is sent—client messages are never sent automatically without a member of our team checking them first.

Your review page

A Simpler Way to Request Changes

You do not need editing experience or specialist terminology. The review page is designed to help you describe what you want in ordinary language.

Remove a phrase Identify a word, sentence or short part of the conversation that should be taken out.
Remove a section Give us a starting point and describe the longer passage you would like removed. An end time can be added if it helps.
Start or end the podcast Tell us exactly where the finished episode should begin or finish.
Use a pickup If a better version of a sentence appears elsewhere in the original recording, tell us where it is and where it should be inserted.
Select transcript text Highlight the exact words in the transcript and add them directly to your edit list with the relevant time.
Choose social clips Where clips are included in your package, identify suitable moments using their start and end times.

Why it works

The Benefits for Our Clients

No confusing email chains

All the edit requests for a version are kept together in a clear, structured list.

Your work saves automatically

You can review the recording in stages without worrying about losing the instructions you have already entered.

Clearer instructions

Timestamps and transcript selections remove much of the uncertainty that can arise from notes such as “remove that bit near the middle.”

A more efficient edit

The editor receives an organised brief and can work through every request methodically.

Visible progress

A private progress page can show where the project has reached, reducing the need to email the studio for an update.

Human approval remains central

Our system supports the production team, but editorial decisions and client communications remain under human control.

Good to know

We Don’t Ask Software to Make Editorial Decisions

Technology helps us organise files, collect instructions and keep track of progress. It does not decide what should be included in your programme.

You remain in control of the changes you request, and an editor applies those decisions to the programme. This matters particularly when a podcast includes sensitive subjects, specialist terminology, organisational policies or carefully agreed messaging.

Before submitting your review

Check that every required change has been included. If social clips form part of your project, remember to add the moments you would like us to use before clicking Submit Review to Studio.

Frequently asked questions

Post-Production FAQs

Do I need to understand video editing?

No. You can describe the change in ordinary language. A timestamp and a short explanation are normally enough for our editor to understand what you need.

Do I have to complete the review in one session?

No. Your draft saves as you work. Keep your private link and you can return to the review page later.

What if I do not want anything removed?

That is absolutely fine. Depending on your project, you may submit only your social clip choices or confirm that no editorial changes are required.

What is the difference between a review file and a final file?

The review file is a smaller working version created for watching, transcription and gathering your instructions. The final file is the polished, full-quality version prepared after the agreed changes have been completed.

How are the finished files supplied?

Delivery depends on your arrangement with the studio. Regular clients may receive files through a dedicated client portal, while other projects can be delivered using an agreed secure file-sharing service.

Can I follow the progress of the edit?

Where a progress page is enabled, your acknowledgement email will include a private link showing the main stages of the project, from editing through to final delivery.
